Apple Cider Vinegar: Benefits, Uses, and How to Take It

What Is Apple Cider Vinegar?
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is made by fermenting apple juice in a two-step process. First, yeast converts the natural sugars in apple juice into alcohol. Then, bacteria convert that alcohol into acetic acid — the active compound that gives ACV its sharp flavour and most of its health properties.
Our ACV is made using Armagh Bramley apples — the same variety prized by chefs and bakers across the British Isles for its intense, complex flavour. The result is a vinegar with real depth and character, far removed from the bland, industrial ACVs you'll find in most supermarkets.
The Key Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
Blood sugar management — Several studies have shown that taking ACV before a high-carb meal can reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes by improving insulin sensitivity. This is one of the most well-evidenced benefits of regular ACV use.
Gut health support — ACV contains pectin from the apples and beneficial acids that support a healthy gut environment. The "mother" in unfiltered ACV also contains beneficial bacteria.
Appetite and weight management — Research suggests ACV may help you feel fuller for longer, potentially reducing overall calorie intake when used as part of a balanced diet.
Antimicrobial properties — Acetic acid has natural antimicrobial properties, which is why vinegar has been used as a food preservative for thousands of years.
Skin and hair — Diluted ACV is widely used as a natural toner and hair rinse, thanks to its mild acidity which helps balance the skin's pH.
How to Take ACV Safely
The most important rule: always dilute. Undiluted ACV is highly acidic and can damage tooth enamel and irritate the throat if taken straight.
The standard approach is 1–2 tablespoons diluted in a large glass of water, taken before a meal. You can add honey, lemon, or ginger to make it more palatable — or try our ACV with Honey variant, which does the hard work for you.
Start with a smaller amount if you're new to ACV and work up gradually. Some people find it easier to take through a straw to minimise contact with teeth.
What Makes Armagh Bramley ACV Different?
The quality of an apple cider vinegar is only as good as the apples it's made from. Bramleys are exceptionally high in malic acid and polyphenols compared to dessert apple varieties — which means our ACV is naturally richer in the compounds that make it beneficial.
Our ACV is traditionally made in small batches, unfiltered and unpasteurised, with the mother intact. No shortcuts, no additives.
